Opera Rebels collective
Opera Rebels is a dynamic vocal duo formed by soprano Ana-Carmen Balestra and mezzo-soprano Roza Herwig. Together, they bring a fresh and exciting perspective to classical music, making the genre more accessible and engaging for a broader audience. As singers, they blend opera with jazz, folk, and theatrical elements to create performances that are both innovative and full of life.
Their voices complement each other beautifully, and their performances go far beyond traditional recitals. In addition to singing, they speak and act on stage, creating an intimate, spontaneous atmosphere that makes each concert a unique experience. They respond to the space, the moment, and the audience, allowing each performance to take on its own character.
Opera Rebels has performed in intimate living rooms, cozy cafés, and small concert halls, and gave a recital for opera lovers through the Grachtenfestival. In April, they performed in Portugal and are set to return for a tour in 2026. They also develop larger productions, including their own opera works, as part of their ongoing artistic growth.
One of their signature programs is Opera Rebels Goes Wild! — a vibrant recital where classical favorites are given a bold new twist. Expect laughter, sing-alongs, and music you recognize presented in unexpected ways. Their shows are full of humor, warmth, musicality, and a touch of playful unpredictability.
In 2026, they will present a new version of Hansel & Gretel, featuring an ensemble, singers, and a narrator. This family-friendly production is designed to introduce young and new audiences to opera in an imaginative and inviting way.
Opera Rebels brings classical music to life, with joy, originality, and heart.
